Thermoplastic compounds & masterbatches with low environmental impact for automotive & transport industries

Automotive sector and mobility sector in general are changing as never before. Addiplast Group develops and markets new materials with low environmental impact under its ADDIBIO Renew® range, such as polyolefin reinforced with natural fibers and biopolymers for structural and appearance parts as well as for batteries and electrical applications.

Addiscience® Research & Development Center, its engineers, doctors and designers are in direct contact with manufacturers linked to the automotive sector to ensure the best material solutions according to the specifications of the targeted applications.

Our daily missions:

  • Improvement of standard technical resins through coloring, additives, fillers and various modifiers. Lightening thanks to natural fibers and blowing agents.
  • Interior, exterior and under-hood applications and for battery environments for hybrid and electric vehicles.
  • Partnerships with leading resin manufacturers. Approval process for the manufacturing processes of Tier 1, OEMs and their subcontractors.

In addition to mass-colored compounds,we develop and manufacture color masterbatches with a dilution from 2% to 4%, officially approved by the car manufacturers from the polyolefin resins and technical polymers on their panel.

Every year, new material references are added to the manufacturers’ material panels, such as the Renault group’s Material Policy panel (PMR) or the STELLANTIS group’s Material Policy panel.

For many years, we have been recognized as a major supplier of high-performance technical compounds for the automotive and transport industries by providing innovative solutions.

Perceived quality expected by consumers is increasing day after day. Requirements of car manufacturers are increasingly complex. We take care of developing and manufacturing innovative solutions that meet the most demanding market requirements.

In addition to the realization of standard colors, our Color and Material studio is in direct contact with the car manufacturers’ designers to develop innovative aspects.

This polyamide PA6-TD-40 formula has been specially designed to obtain a mat or glossy chrome plating for interior and exterior parts.

Mass tinted metallic grey

Obtaining defect-free metallic grey parts requires special attention in the formulation of our compounds if we want to avoid any flow line during injection stage. Tooling design is also a key factor of success. It must also be taken into consideration from the beginning of the project. This co-development stage is therefore essential. Therefore, our multidisciplinary teams are trained from development stage onwards to provide you with the assistance you need to ensure the success of your project.

Many references on several polymers are available and can be ordered in many metallic colors.  For example:

Breakthrough Decors

The Design Studio, coupled with Addiplast Group’s Innovation Unit, is a real center of excellence to help you develop new effects. This innovation space is a place where our color experts as well as your designers and stylists can discuss the possibilities of multiple and innovative decors for tomorrow’s vehicles.

There are many current themes in this field.

For example, we can offer visible natural fiber effects for aesthetic interior parts.

ADDIBIO Renew® GEI 51059

The use of recycled materials but also to connote the aspect of waste recycling to end consumers is also an effective communication axis.

We support manufacturers in the development of recycled aspect or plastics for interior parts but also for exterior applications.

The rise of the hybrid and electric car challenges plastics manufacturers to produce increasingly high-performance parts.

Research and experimental development (R&D) and Marketing departments work closely with European car manufacturers to take their needs into account and develop materials that meet their specifications. All the standards, such as UL94 V0 for fire resistance and FMVSS 302, which define the burning speed of materials, are required by automotive industry.

Developments are focused on a few specific grades of PA, PP, PBT, PPS, PK under the ADDIFLAM® brand. These materials are intended for different applications, either on the battery (support, busbar…), or under the engine hood (electronic card boxes, casings…), or inside the vehicle for non-visible parts.

For interior applications, the requirements of odor and low volatile organic compounds (VOC), a constraint for flame retardant materials, are met. This requirement is met, for example, by ADDIFLAM® J490M20FR Low Emi.

As soon as motorization is hybrid or electric, many parts are concerned with flame-retardant characteristics evolution. For all parts subject to electrical voltage, the orange color is available on most of our compounds. Several ADDIFLAM® references that are currently used in series (J 490 M20FR, H 490 M20FR, VHI 53063X, or WBI 23041F, VBI 23045F, VAI 22032F) are polypropylene, polyamide, PBT, or PK compounds filled with mineral or glass fibers that meet UL 94 V0 requirements.

Electronics are increasingly used for connectivity in view of autonomous vehicles. We have developed a range of flame-retardant compounds that comply with international standards.

As vehicles become more sophisticated, on-board safety and proliferation of electrical connectivity equipment are making vehicles significantly heavier. At the same time, new C02 emission standards are increasingly stringent. Lightening is therefore becoming a necessity for manufacturers. We develop and mass-produce innovative solutions using, for example, natural fibers, carbon fibers or lamellar talc.

Compound properties of reinforced are comparable to traditional mineral-filled or glass-fiber-reinforced compounds, but with a density that allows weight savings of nearly 20% at iso-design.

Dashboard, under vehicle protection, under engine hood parts

This natural fiber reinforced polypropylene compounds combine high rigidity and low density. Their good thermal properties (HDT > 150°C) allow them to be considered for under-the-hood parts.

Thanks to their low emissions and their compliance with the automotive standard indoor smell test, these materials can also be used for interior parts.

Calculation of the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) is carried out internally with methods and software approved by manufacturers.

We have developed natural fiber-reinforced materials that are now used in series for aesthetic parts. ADDIBIO Renew® polypropylene compounds meet automotive interior specifications such as UV resistance, for light or dark color harmony, scratch resistance, low odor, and low emission.

These three references P/E NF 20 were created to be injected in the same tools as traditional P/E TD10, P/E TD15, and P/E TD20. Therefore, mass reduction and carbon footprint reduction are immediately improved even for cars in series without waiting for the development of new model.

Moreover, talc absence makes these materials particularly resistant to scratching, even on large surfaces, while maintaining same or even greater rigidity.

According to the manufacturers’ expectations, these three materials will meet the most demanding specifications:

ADDIBIO Renew® GEI 52009

ADDIBIO Renew® GEI 52021 Low emission

ADDIBIO Renew® GEI 52067

For lightening, in addition to natural fibers, we propose compounds and masterbatches filled with ultra-flaky talc.
