ECO-DESIGN FOR BETTER RECYCLING

Five products detectable by near-infrared (NIR) technology have already been developed by Addicolor and are part of the sustainable range.

In France, with the extension of sorting instructions to all plastic packaging, sorting centers have been modernized, in particular by automating their processes and equipping themselves with optical separators using Near Infra Red (NIR) technology.
COTREP – French Technical Committee for Plastic Packaging Recycling, is assisting the Addiplast Group in analyzing and validating its new developments. These include new black masterbatches and compounds that are detectable by infrared in recycling streams. These formulations facilitate the categorization of black plastic items in post-consumer waste streams and their sorting using conventional NIR equipment.ommation et leur tri à l’aide d’équipements NIR conventionnels.
In the MB ADDILENE® and MB ADDITER® ranges, the Addiplast Group offers NIR detectable masterbatches that are suitable for food contact in accordance with European Regulation 10/2011. These have been specially developed to meet the needs of the rigid and flexible packaging markets, with three grades of polypropylene for injection molding and thermoforming and two grades of PET that can be processed by injection molding and extrusion. All of them have obtained COTREP certification. The use of these coloring solutions with an integration rate of less than or equal to 2% allows rigid and flexible packaging to be detected and correctly directed to the recycled material stream.

Thanks to its Addiscience® research center and its center dedicated to the design of Addicolor color masterbatches, the Addiplast group is in the process of offering new NIR-detectable solutions with even greater brightness and color depth. These criteria of opacity and color intensity are highly sought after by contractors and manufacturers, particularly for the needs of the cosmetics sector, which places eco-design and recyclability at the heart of its concerns.
